as the start of the new season looms Liverpool will travel to Belgium to face Standard Liege in a qualifier for the new Champions League campaign. With Steven Gerrard facing a race against time to be fit, French youngster Damien Plessis is likely to partner Xabi Alonso in midfield.
The match is not listed yet but hopefully links will come up, remember its still 2 days to go.

The first game of the new season and the new hopes. Yeah of course we're better team but don't need to win the first leg because everything will show up at Anfield. I compare it to the game against Toulouse last season and I know everything will be ok. Come on Liverpool

I just can't wait for the new season to start. Its a great day today, but Saturday will be far more exciting. Agree on your comment SebaLFC, though I think our new Irishman will get himself a goal tonite. 2:1 LFC is my prediction.

if standard liege are still using onyewu at the back, he has the sort of relationships with refs that peter crouch has when playing for england. otherwise, the us might very well have gotten out of their group at the last WC.

let's hope that he pulls someone down in a good spot today

yeh I read somewhere on the bbc today they were still using him. its a shame we got rid of crouchy, would of been a nice challenge for the two of them haha

Unfortunately Onyewu wont be there because of a red card he had at last year's UEFA cup against Zenit so he wont be playing tonight but i still hope for a good result in Sclessin,the belgian version of Anfield.

I have to say I'm pretty excited for this match. The Sopcast - CableSoccer channel is already up and running. Hopefully the game is on there as listed on the main page, the stream looks great! Anyone know if CableSoccer has a webpage or something I could look at its upcoming schedule?
