Vandenhurk optioned for position player Gaby Sanches
Anibal Sanchez could start on Saturday

MArlins are interested in Smoltz that he goes into the rotation!

Really wish they would've sent Volstad down rather than VandenHurk. I really like VandenHurk, and Volstad just has too many problems in each game. The fact is that sometimes a team can just make a hit or two turn into runs. Really need to focus less on the 6 runs VandenHurk gave up in his last outing, and more on the fact he struck out 9.

Anibal is one of my favorites. Really like him, and hope he comes back nice and strong. As for Smoltz, I wouldn't mind him coming into the rotation, as long as we send down Volstad and give Smoltz his spot in the rotation, or if we convert Volstad into a multi-inning relief pitcher like Badenhop.

Thanks for making this thread, Boothy.

You know how I felt about Volstad when I came on...He had already given up a homerun in the first inning! They must sent him down for 2 starts like Nolasco. Nolasco was great in nearly all starts after the rehab starts. And even West was better than Volstad against Houston. Volstads start against the Nats was a great example. He pitched the first 4 innings or so good. Marlins had an 8-3 lead but then he comes up big AGAIN and gives up a homerun(3run shot)?!. Every game a homerun is a real bad stat!

mhm..Anibal pitched 3 1/3 in Jacksonville gave up one hit, a homer and two runs! He struck out 5. I'd say that this is too much! He is not ready for me. You could easily let Vandy pitch. He pitched well except his last start! But even JJ had one like this!! Yeah we must do something but the Fish did the wrong decision tonight!!

Absolutely. Volstad just can't hold down the fort. He doesn't eat innings, either. Speaking of eating innings, how about Nolasco last night? Complete game, only gave up 3 hits, and 2 runs in the first. Then pitched lights-out baseball! Also extended our 10+ multi-hit streak to 14. Currently in the same standing with teams from 1900-1937. 4 games away from the record.

VandenHurk's last outing was good. It's just hard to deal with a team that manufactures runs against you. The best example is the Marlins. We have our awesome streak of 10+ multi-hits going. But the 10+ hits in each game hasn't translated into 10+ runs. The way they played against VandenHurk on his last outing, Colorado had 7 hits and 7 runs. When you can score everytime you get a hit, you're going to walk away with a win more often than not.

Really sucks we lost VandenHurk, and we're stuck with Volstad. Smoltz looks not at all interested in the Fish, which is fine. More money to go towards the "Keep JJ Fund". /sarcasm.

Anibal should be back Friday, but the Fish would really make me happy if they recalled VandenHurk as well, and really considered sending Volstad down. They should give Anibal the start on Friday, and VandenHurk the start on Saturday. Volstad really needs to get sent down, or stuck in the pen as a multi-inning relief pitcher. (You know how I feel strongly about our need for more Badenhop's in the pen!)

I think we have already a new Badenhop: Brian Sanches!! He pitched 20+ scoreless innings and can pitch multi innings! I would like to see get Volstad and Vandy the next starts so that Anibal can pitch another rehab! After that they can recall him and send Volstad down.

Now..ricky!! He pitched very well. I wasnt surprised that he pitched very good! I knew he would rebound after that shitty start against HOU last time! And another good fact is that our pen did NOT have to work. After the DH on Sunday they needed another break

They are hitting great but what I criticized often is that appointed players get always an out!!! HErmida! Even if he hit a HR last night I would like to see him out of the lineup. I would like to have BC back and not Gaby Sanches!!! They wasted their opportunities very often and after a time it will hit against you!

I agree about Hermida. I think everyone is harping on him about how he just hasn't lived up to his billing time and time again. He's one of those guys who takes every chance he gets to underachieve. I'd like to get BC back, too.

However, before we start taking away people from our offense, I'd like to wait it out until we start having our offensive struggles again. Right now the team has a strong chemistry, which does include Hermida. I'd like to not risk breaking up that chemistry, just to get one guy out of the lineup who we just aren't pleased with.

Hermida did hit a homerun last night (and it was the 10th hit of the game at that), and that is part of our chemistry, our team. Let's keep rolling along, winning games, and keeping baseball interesting!

We will see it tonight if it works! West probably needs runs!! So it is a good time to score runs.

West had a rough first inning, but this game is just.. Well, Tommy and Rich said it best; it's bizarre (haha @ the pun with Houston's starting pitcher).

The game has been filled with great plays both teams, and errors by both teams. Just kinda odd. We're half way there for our 15th game. Just need some more hits (and runs).

EDIT: WOOHOO! Just got our 10th hit on Bonifacio's bunt! Extended our streak to 15 games straight with 10 or more hits!

Edit 2: The game was good, and ended much the same way the game went. Coghlan had a 9-pitch AB with the bases loaded in the top of the 9th, which a grandslam would've given them the lead, but he struck out. Astros played great tonight. Not picture perfect, but there are going to be a boatload of webgems from this game.

Speaking of Coghlan, I sure hope he's alright after slamming the wall the way he did during his leap. He is one of our better bats, and his speed is irreplaceable. Hermida was a walk machine tonight. He contributed that way at least.

Do you think Hanley will get the batting title this year? Last night he struggled, giving up easy one-pitch freebie outs, but he really has been on a roll otherwise. What do you think?

I think it will be a decision between Hanley and Pujols. Pujols hit 3X homeruns and several grand slams. But all in all Hanley has a better average and mostly has a hit. Hanley for batting title. And the Fish get the win for wasted opportunities.

If CC strikesout..He cant do all for us and Hanley also not. But why did the other not step up. Marlins left 16 on base and scored only 2 runs with 10+ hits. So we could have easily walk away with the win even West struggled. But when we do it like this...

I think Hanley has a real shot, and last nights quick outs just shows that he needs a night off, the season has him burning out and that could kill the entire season for us.

It's like I was saying, they have these multi-hit games, but so few runs scored from the hits. I'm really confused as to why they aren't being productive with runs when they're all clearly getting hits. Frustrating knowing the offense is there now, but even still the runs aren't adding up.

Could be interesting, I hope the Marlins can extend their streak and Johnson gets his 13th win.

Really hope Cantu is alright. Really don't like how they scratched him so late from the game. We're so close, and we're bordering a collapse as it is. At least JJ is being JJ tonight.

Poor effort by our team. Johnson was roughed up in the 4th. Charged with 4 runs! Hitting streak snapped but why cant our team help him...
