Note on How to record a Stream with VLC:

Once the TVants or Stream Torrent stream is buffered:

    Start VLC
    Select: File >Open Network Stream
Select: HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS and paste the URL/Link
Select: Stream/Save under Advanced Options and click on Settings
Select: Outputs and Play locally and File
    Select: ASF as Encapsulationd Method
OK and VLC should start play and also capture the video to the file.

Close the StreamTorrent or TvAnts picture window, but DO NOT close out of the application, for this closes the stream. (Side note: The asf link will change for each stream. Usually the last number is what changes.)

Hope you have a ton of disk space! :smile_old:

Just to add to that if you decide to carry on watching the stream while recording you will find that the stream gets distorted, jerky etc.... this is normal. But your recording will be fine for future playback.

    Default Jerky VLC Recordings Fix

The jerky stream is caused by a lack of processing power to convert the stream to H.264 which VLC is trying to do in real time. You can easily tell by looking at your CPU stats and if they are 100% then there you go.

The way I solved this problem is to select the "Dump raw input" option in the settings field. The only downside is when you play it back, it plays back as if it were a live stream, you can Fast Forward BUT NOT Rewind.

I will often stop and restart saving the stream after the 3rd and 6th innings to allow easier access to the parts of the game I'm interested in. I use a "team date "abc"" nomenclature to keep the parts together. ie G 8-7a for Giants Aug 7 part a, G 8-7b for Giants Aug 7 part b etc.

    I hope this helps.

Default Recording a Stream Torrent Feed Using the "Dump Raw Input" Option

The Dump Raw Input option allows a Stream Torrent feed to be saved using very little processing power. With my AMD 4850e processor I can not record a watchable Stream Torrent feed in the convert to H.264 mode. The picture is fine until any action occurs, then it's rubbish. Using the Dump raw input option I have been able to save 3 concurrent Stream Torrent channels with no problems at all.

    "Dump raw input" Option Caveats:

Unattended recordings are iffy. Any Stream Torrent feed is subject to interruption, if the interruption is long enough then VLC will stop recording. So if I can, I check from time to time to make sure VLC is still recording.

VLC will not concurrently save and play a feed - but the feed can be played in a second VLC window, I prefer the Stream Torrent player to a VLC window for live viewing.

Must use VLC to play back the file, as far as I can tell.

VLC plays back the file as if it is a live stream, you can Fast Forward BUT NOT Rewind

I will stop and restart saving the stream at convenient points, i.e. after the 3rd and 6th innings, to allow easier access to the parts of the game I'm interested in. I use a "team date "abc"" nomenclature to keep the parts together. i.e. G 8-7a for Giants Aug 7 part a, G 8-7b for Giants Aug 7 part b etc.

I use a networked folder named "Streaming TV" to save VLC Stream Torrent files - this allows me to watch the show using VLC on any computer on my network.

File size is dependent on the Stream Torrent feed rate and duration, in my experience a 3 hr feed at 400kbps is less than 1gb, though your mileage may vary.

How to Record a Stream Torrent Feed Using the "Dump Raw Input" Option

Turn on StreamTorrent. Open and Lock the channel you wish to watch. Once the channel starts playing then right click on the streaming picture window, go to "Properties" and copy the .asf link you find. i.e http://127.0.0.1:15900/x.asf - x is the arbitrary Stream Torrent number assigned to channel you opened.

Open VLC, in the "Media" Menu select “Open Network Stream” Paste the Stream Torrent address “http://127.0.0.1:15900/x.asf” address into the "Please enter a network URL:" box

Click the "Down Arrow" to the right of the "Play" Button and select "Convert"

In the "Settings" Box click the "Dump raw input" option

In the "Destination" Box enter the destination file name and location. The "Display the Output" box can be checked or not, but VLC in the "Dump raw input” mode will not display the stream.

    Press the “Start” button

VLC will take a moment to start up, the recording has started when the VLC “Time” box, bottom right, shows “00:00/00:00”

End the recording by pressing the VLC “Stop” button or by unlocking and stopping the Stream Torrent Channel
To err is human, to really screw up you need a computer
