For those of you who are just too lazy to do all this (not to say this is bad information, admin, there is just a very easy alternative) there is some very useful software which does all this automatically.

Its called Hide IP Platinum. Its not free, but those of you who are resourceful will know what to do.
With the click of a button the program will change the proxy settings in IE for you automatically. You can keep changing the proxy until you find one that not only works, but is in a country of desire and is fast enough to suit your needs.

If you are having problems with one proxy, try a few different ones. I recommend using firefox with foxyproxy as it's easy to change back and forth. I have noticed that using a US proxy sometimes messes with some webpages. I have tried some from proxy4free and they have been pretty good. They also update regularly so keep trying different ones and don't forget to change the port. If you are still having problems email me at cangringo@hotmail.com

This proxy has continued to work for me, if the blackout message won't go away the first time, keep reloading until it works.

NHL Center Ice Proxy InstructionsI splurged this year and got the NHL Center Ice Package. I love it. I'm a Wings fan all the way through and in the military so when I moved away from home and couldn't watch the games anymore I found and turned to this site to watch my games. I was very grateful for all the streamers on here and would do it myself if it weren't for the fact that none of my cable channels play NHL games. All of this said I ran into a glitch tonight trying to get my wings game to play. Even though I have no cable channels that broadcast NHL games and am nowhere near Detroit or Nashville (they usually blackout the Avs games for me) they blacked it out anyway. I know about the whole proxy thing but couldn't figure out how to get it going and couldn't find a post anywhere about it. These are the steps that i finally got to work for me. This post might want to end up as a sticky or something.

Note: I used Firefox to get this working although the steps would be similar with IE. Also a thing to note is that NHL Center Ice uses the detected IP from the "NHL Video Portal" and also the IP that you connect to the actual media from to authorize your access to the media.

The key then to getting this to work is to make sure that the IP that the portal and WMP (Windows Media Player) is the same. Unfortunately this means that the video must be streamed through the proxy.

First of of all, find a proxy. Go to http://rosinstrument.com/proxy/ and scroll down to "Recently checked proxy". Search by speed and find a proxy with some good speed that isn't a "planetlab" proxy. These don't allow the NHL Portal site to load correctly.

Put this information into your proxy settings in Firefox by going to "Tools" -> "Options" -> "Advanced" -> "Network". Click "settings" and select "manual proxy configuration" and click the "Use this proxy server for all protocols" box.

Put this same information into WMP by either opening it or just going to the NHL Portal. Right mouse click on one of the windows and select "Options". From there click the network tab and select the streaming proxy settings for HTTP and click "Configure". Select "Use the following proxy server:" and put the same proxy information in. You might be able to use the "Use proxy settings of the web browser" option but I was having some difficulty with this sometimes. Click "OK" and follow the same steps for RTSP.

You might have to reload the NHL Portal and your blacked out games should be available. Don't forget though that if the proxy that you're using is in the same viewing area as you are already in then that proxy won't help you. On the flip side though if you choose a proxy from another country you could get the nationally blacked out games. Maybe that would work when it comes to the playoffs. Speedy proxies from other countries might be tough to find though. You might also want to turn this off when you aren't using it as it does tend to slow down your normal browsing and streaming.

Thanks to the streamers on here who give us all a chance to catch what we otherwise might miss.
