Default tools + addons + utilities for windows.

I started this thread a while ago, but its gone down with the site upgrade I suspect, so here we go again.

Basically, I ll be posting tools + addons that I find quite useful for windows.

    Feel free to add yours.

    1.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For a start, here is Totalcopy http://www.ranvik.net/totalcopy/tcopy.exe and the description below says it all. Its 5 stars

Total Copy is a handy shell extension, that allows you to pause and resume file copies under Windows. It integrates into the right click menu and becomes available whenever you drag files or folders to copy them. You can also limit the copy speed, if needed.

Total Copy also speeds up the overall copy process. The program does not modify the default copy function, but rather installs as an additional option.

    Features:

    - Pause / Resuming : At any time you may pause the copy-prosess, and continue later.
    - Auto-pause on any error : If you run out of disk space, the network goes down, or some other error occurs, copying is automatically paused, and you may resume when the error is sorted out.
    - Resuming on Power Failure : If the computer is turned off during the copy prosess (ex. power-loss or system-crash), Total Copy lets you resume when you restart.
    - Speed limit : Slows down the copy prosess, and frees resources to other tasks.
    - Faster than Windows : Copies slightly faster than Windows (approx. 10% locally, and 1% on network)
    - Small improvements : Shows copy-speed, a percent-bar and KBytes remaining.
    - Does not modify Windows' own copy-function : This program will not alter the existing windows-copy-function.

*I really Liked This Tiny Little Piece of App and It almost looks like Ur downloading Files all the time and Not Copying them

    2. Process lasso
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Process Lasso
Take control of your processes and increase system responsiveness!

Process Lasso is a unique new technology intended to automatically adjust the allocation of CPU cycles so that system responsiveness is improved in high-load situations. It does this by temporarily lowering the priorities of processes that are consuming too many CPU cycles, there-by giving other processes a chance to run if they are in need. This is useful for both single and multi-core processors. No longer will a single process be able to bring your system to a virtual stall.

In addition, Process Lasso offers capabilities such as default process priorities, default process CPU affinities, termination of disallowed processes, and logging of processes executed. With Process Lasso you essentially create rules to manage processes running on your system.

Process Lasso does all this while consuming almost no system resources thanks to being written in native C++ code, using native win32 APIs complimented with NT native APIs for process management (instead of toolhelp or psapi). Also, we used advanced data structures to track processes in the most efficient way possible. No other competing product can claim the efficiency of Process Lasso.

    Process Lasso Functions
    Automatic out-of-control process restraint
    Default process priorities
    Default process affinities
    Auto-termination
    Logging
    And more...

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    3 - xplorer
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Explore your desktop without the hassle

xplorer˛ is what windows explorer should have been. We've kept the best bits and threw away the inconsistencies and irritations, all in a small and nimble, easy to use package.

At first glance everything looks familiar: the classic tree/view user interface, clean and clutter free, should get you started immediately. xplorer˛ will get you in all places you keep your digital wealth, including namespace extensions like FTP, zipfolders, webfolders (webDAV) etc.

But that's where the similarities end. Unlike explorer, xplorer˛ allows you to browse more than one folder at a time, using tabs [1] and dual panes [2]. Sorting out and copying files becomes a breeze. You can navigate your shell namespace quickly using favorites, clickable paths (breadcrumbs) [3], easy access to root folders [4], a tree and a bookmark pane [5] (drop box) etc. You can even save and restore folder groups whenever your workflow deems necessary.

xplorer˛ browsing model scales up well to large folders with thousands of files. It reads fast, offers visual filters and a variety of selection mechanisms that allow you to manage your files effectively.

Nice tools guys. I have nothing to share though. I have only two things running on the background: MSN messenger and foobar (music player). I mostly try to avoid all those background applications, download managers, display enhancers and USB connection things.

Check out my very cool and plain desktop ;D. I'm also interested in your desktops..

    @Edo,

    Nice + clean desktop.

I never clutter my own desktop too. Never! Not even with a wallpaper And tell you what, windows run quicker that way

The only 2 items on my windows desktop are Opera shortcut + Xplorer. I 'll dump the screen later.

By the way, totalcopy is terrific (when you need to copy tons of files) and it doesnt run as a background process. But launchy does install a memory resident process, but its worth the truoble especially on laptops.

Search GT is a nice program. It was given as a 'give away of the day', for not so long time ago, and I've used it since.
Search GT - fast file search add-on for Windows

Not useful for Vista I think, but a program like this (or one that is like this), is a must on Windows XP. Searches really fast!

any body have any suggestions or ideas or making a list by looking at my cpu list the minimum amount of processes which I need to run my pc

This is my task manager showing all the processes always run on start up
